About this deal

Cleaning in the Dyson V11’s Boost mode is seriously impressive and improves considerably on the V10’s Max mode.

Here, the V11 uses its Dynamic Load Sensor (DLS), which monitors brush bar resistance up to 360 times per second, to adjust the suction power between carpets and hard floors. Dyson's V11 Absolute takes a whopping four-and-a-half hours to fully charge for up to 60 minutes of runtime. The V11 moves around easily on both carpets and hard floors, whether you're using the High Torque cleaner head or the soft roller cleaner head, and the articulated design of the heads makes cleaning under furniture a breeze.Alison found the mini motorised tool useful for pet bedding, the dusting brush great for blinds, curtain poles, light fittings and skirting boards, and the crevice tool a must for upholstery, for reaching the spaces between kitchen appliances and for other hard-to-reach nooks and crannies. Testing with the High Torque head mounted on the V10 and V11, I found the V11 was more effective, sucking up noticeably more spilled flour on short-pile carpet than the V10. This time around, I’m very pleased to say that Dyson has finally bundled a clip that fits around the extension pole and takes both the crevice tool and one of the brushes (the 2-in-1 wide nozzle tool/stiff brush or soft brushing dust_. While the old V10 had only a basic display on the battery to show a rough level of charge, the V11’s screen shows a countdown timer, so you know exactly how long is left.

Again, it’s a fixed unit, so once you’ve run down the 60-minute time (on Eco mode with a motorised brush), it will need to be charged. Most of the time, I was able to leave it to do its thing in automatic mode, saving the trouble of having to fiddle with power settings. Even in Eco mode if offers powerful suction, enabling you to make the most of the 60-minute run-time. On the negative side, both cleaners ended up with a few Cheerios jammed in the central tube of the dust container; the blockages were to clear but you do have to slide open the bin to get in there and sort it out. The LCD screen is easy to navigate, and is handy for letting you know if there’s a blockage and how much run-time is left.

With more power at the vacuum’s head and in the motor, you might think battery life would take a serious hit. Surprisingly, with the High Torque head attached, you get the longest battery life in Boost mode thanks to those clever pressure-sensitive sensors. The improvement in suction comes via the more powerful motor, but Dyson has made some improvements to airflow, too.Switching out the High Torque head and wand for the mini motorized tool we tackled the sofas; while this configuration looks a little ungainly with the tool connected directly to the cylinder, it feels well balanced and light at just over 2kg, and again it picked up the pet hairs with ease. This shows the exact number of minutes and seconds remaining, provides tips on how to resolve blockages when they occur, and indicates the mode you’re using. Otherwise, you’re missing out on one of its key new features – the pressure-sensing automatic suction mode enabled by the High Torque head. New this year is the High Torque cleaner head, which adapts the cleaner’s power to the type of surface it’s on. Thanks to its adjustable slider, it’ll pick up large debris on hard floors when it’s set to the minus (“-”) setting and, yet, is also able to deep-clean thick carpet with the slider pushed over to the plus (“+”) setting.
