This view associates witchcraft – and by extension, Lady Macbeth – not with villainy and evil, but with heroism. In Lady MacBethad, I wanted to tell the story of Gruoch, alluding often to the character in Shakespeare’s play, but also creating a separate and complete identity for her outside of the play.
