About this deal

With shades of Brit Bennett’s The Vanishing Half and Liane Moriarty’s Nine Perfect Strangers, This Might Hurt is a tense psychological thriller with an eye towards larger themes.”— PureWow Wrobel has honed her writing style even more sharply since her strong debut novel…and is again delivering her readers a “ripped from the headlines” story. ThisMightHurt contains moments and characters recognizable to those familiar with the NXVIM cult and its downfall, although the twists and turns are all Wrobel’s own, and will leave readers guessing until the very end.” Overall, this is a novel that is very hard to put down. Stephanie Wrobel has a way of pulling you into a narrative and not letting you go, she is a very talented author in my opinion. This one really makes you think especially about the human spirit and it’s one I’ll certainly keep reflecting on.

We forget to appreciate how incredibly hard it is to work in the medical field. If anything, the global pandemic currently happening has opened our eyes to this. Wrobel writes decently and the characters were all interesting and well-portrayed, despite being unlikable. I could really relate to all of this, though overall I believe the NHS program was a tougher place to survive than my program at the Mayo Clinic. Adam Kay has my deepest respect. The POV changes between Natalie and Kit. There are also chapters told from the perspective of a daughter of a tyrannical, diabolical father. Imagine having to accrue enough activity points to be allowed to sleep at night. It takes awhile to figure out who this daughter is.But the island already gives her haunted and excessively claustrophobic vibes: it seems like somebody watches her every move and the crew members of the Wisewood have stern and vicious methods to force you test your own survival skills.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada for providing an arc via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. For me, the timeline of the book wasn't quite believable. Everything here happens within a day. But it feels like Kirby's in school a lot longer than he should be. There's all this time between classes where bullying happens. Overall, the events don't seem like they add up to a single day. The events would have made more sense if they spread out over a series of days, instead. The cult plot just wasn’t doing it for me. I can read about real-life cults all day long, but for whatever reasons, I don’t like it in fiction. Juliet Pearce, director of nursing midwifery at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, praised the show. She described it as "hilarious and heart-breaking" and a "reminder of the human emotions behind every tired, scared and fallible healthcare professional". [37] Jess Phillips, Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley, praised the series for highlighting the pressures of working in the NHS. [37] or 2.5 stars. I did not enjoy this. Much of it was unnecessarily confusing. A good mystery is one in which the reader thinks, “I didn’t see that coming, but this makes sense,” not that the author purposely was coy about who was telling the story and during what time. There is jumping from sister to sister, Natalie and Kit, a storyline that makes sense even if it leaps around in time, and another story that’s hard to read because it involves an appallingly psychologically abusive father.Jacobs, Meredith. With her second novel, the author of Darling Rose Gold (2020) brings more multi-point-of-view fun to thriller fans. The overall impression I was left with was how utterly grueling the process of becoming a doctor really is, how the NHS is setup to grind the doctors down even further, getting to know the human (warts and all) behind the white coat and how much a thank you from a patient means. a b c d Phelan, Zehra (24 June 2021). The last part of the novel will be true to its title as the walls come down around the secrets and identities of those we have been reading about, which makes for an incredible ending. THIS MIGHT HURT deserves to be one of the most talked-about books of 2022."
