The New York Times was less positive, with Manohla Dargis unmoved by character and plot but nonetheless impressed by the talents of Fincher and Fassbender. "The character is boring and so is this movie, but like the supremely skilled Fincher, who can't help but make images that hold your gaze even as your mind wanders, Fassbender does keep you watching." [23]

This chapter begins a new unwelcome trend: the protagonist rants about the evils of the world. He realizes that returning to his old line of work has brought more problems than expected. Finally, there’s the undeniable Fincher-ness of “The Killer.” One could see it as a filmmaker playing his greatest hits with his best bandmates again, but there’s something deeper at play here. This isn’t just the work of an artist repeating himself; it’s the work of one reworking his themes and obsessions into something brave and new. It ultimately asks if people like The Killer can shut the world out to get the job done. And, by extension, if a master like David Fincher can too. Owen Gleiberman, Variety: "It's not that he's anything less than great at it, but [Fincher] may think there’s more shading, more revelation in how he has staged The Killer than there actually is." How long is The Killer?Leave No Witnesses: Averted, the Killer would rather Threaten the Witness by taking their IDs than outright killing them. Maraino goes missing and everyone’s life is about to change. Jacamon’s color here is at its best and the art is strong enough to make the harshest critic smile. Felperin, Leslie (September 3, 2023). He's characterized as a stoic, reflective sort of person with deeply misanthropic tendencies, although he does object to killing people for any reason other than money.

The protagonist of this graphic novel is a hitman. He could be described as misanthropic, cold, calculating, nihilistic, cynical... You know the type - at least from books and movies. He is also patient and careful, which is his key to being a successful hitman. As he waits (and waits and waits) for his target, he tells us (the reader) how he got started, why he chose that profession, his philosophy on life, and a few anecdotes about his life and his plans. When he finally get the target in his sights, the job goes terribly wrong and he has to figure out what happened, who he can trust, and what he's going to do next. The Killeris French comic book created by Matz and Luc Jacamon. Originally published in 1998, the series is about an unnamed assassin who contemplates his work and life in general while carrying out his work. The entire series has been collected in one book and is set to be released by BOOM! Studios. While his previous Netflix film was adapted from a script by his late father, Fincher now relies on a French comic book for The Killer. Diehard Fincher fans will also be delighted to know that The Killer marks the second collaboration between the crime genre auteur and his Se7en scribe Andrew Kevin Walker. Before the movie drops on Netflix on November 10, it’s worth knowing a thing or two about its gritty source material. The Killer is based on a French Comic from the 90s David Fincher brings his new 2023 movie The Killer to Netflix, adapting a much-loved series of graphic novels by Alexis “Matz” Nolent. The film sees Fincher in his element, with a tale of murder, revenge, and mystery, and, working from a screenplay by Andrew Kevin Walker, the movie takes the comic book story and brings it to life in a stunning and brutal way.

Below is the partial review I wrote for Fanbase Press. If I could give more than five stars, I would. I waited many years to finish this series. It's an excellent story and worthy of being included in the Best Of comic book lists. As we mentioned above, time will tell if The Killer is going to play at all in movie theaters, but at the very least movie fans are going to be able to watch it on Netflix. Lazy Alias: The Killer complains about this when his employers give him a passport with the name "Labataille" for a particular job. They thought they were being cute, but he points out that it's too obvious, although he still manages to slip through customs.A French hit man has long been at the top of his game, but the psychic weight of his crimes is slowly catching up with him. After he botches a job and attracts a policeman determined to bring him down, he may be losing his mettle just when he needs his skills the most. While the city was under Nazi occupation, Petiot preyed upon the fears of the populace by offering a fraudulent escape route for those wanted by the Germans. Instead, he slayed those who came to him for aid and stole their valuables and other belongings. During his trial, Petiot claimed that his victims had all been traitors—Nazi collaborators or “double agents”—but was nonetheless found guilty and beheaded. Fear, David (8 November 2023). "How David Fincher Turned 'The Killer' Into a Mean, Lean Punch to the Gut". Rolling Stone . Retrieved 12 November 2023. Final Thoughts (Part One):What a ride! There are a few twists and turns but The Killerdoes not rely on them. The story is driven by the actions of the unnamed protagonist. The reader is constantly let in to the assassin’s world through his thoughts and deeds. Jacamon’s art is fantastic with the coloring being a real stand out. The Killertakes place around the world and each location has a different look and feel. A true work of art visually and story wise.

Michael Fassbender will be seen portraying the eponymous character. This movie has a stellar star cast including Tilda Swinton, Kerry O'Malley, Monique Ganderton and Sala Baker. 'The Killer' would be the first collaboration of Fincher and Fassbender. This graphic novel based movie follows a dangerously talented hitman as he is slowly starting to be consumed with psychological issues. Development on the graphic novel adaptation began in 2007 at Paramount Pictures and Plan B Entertainment, with Fincher signed on as director and Alessandro Camon as screenwriter. In 2021, Fincher later moved the project over to Netflix with Andrew Kevin Walker replacing Camon as writer. Matz has written a story that's a little more shallow than I would have liked, in that it relies too heavily on self-concious narration that's neither as clever nor weighty as the book seems to think it is. Examples:

The killer appears to have been set up. The story moves to another locale as the killer appears to be more accepting of his life. Great comparisons with wildlife and the art continues to impress. Chapter Three: The Debt
