About this deal

Creatures petrified by a basilisk were not dead, but placed into a form of permanent suspended animation some called "stone sleep". While petrified, the statue could be damaged, just as natural stone could be. [11]

Leonardo da Vinci included a basilisk in his Bestiary, saying “it is so utterly cruel that when it cannot kill animals by its baleful gaze, it turns upon herbs and plants, and fixing its gaze on them, withers them up.” [ citation needed] In his notebooks, he describes the basilisk in an account clearly dependent directly or indirectly on Pliny's: Albertus Magnus, in the De animalibus, wrote about the killing gaze of the basilisk, but he denied other legends, such as the rooster hatching the egg. He gave as source of those legends Hermes Trismegistus, who is credited also as the creator of the story about the basilisk's ashes being able to convert silver into gold. The attribution is absolutely incorrect, but it shows how the legends of the basilisk were already linked to alchemy in the 13th century.

The diet of the basilisk lizard varies from one species to the next, but they are generally omnivores. They prefer to eat winged insects, though they will eat smaller prey that is available by the water near which they live. Their diet is 20% to 30% plant matter, and the rest is a combination of insects, spiders, small mammals, snails, and smaller lizards. Predators and Threats When a live victim looked directly into the Basilisk's eyes, it resulted in instant death, making it even more dangerous than an Acromantula. Although looking at the eyes through camera lens or a ghost's transparent body would dampen the lethal effects, looking through a pair of glasses did not offer the same protection, because glasses still allowed one's line of vision to connect directly and clearly with the serpent's eyes. [3]

Als Schildhalter dient seit dem Ende des 15. Jh. ein Fabelwesen: der Basilisk. Er hat die Gestalt eines Hahnes mit Adlerschnabel, Drachenflügeln und Eidechsenschwanz. (in German) After she is dead, the reavers are very glad to have had your help and reward you with 400 as the quest completes. (200 ) The Count is heartbroken, but you get to loot the corpse for Silver basilisk trophy and Squire's steel sword. Part of the reason that the basilisk lizard is so interesting among the public is because of its incredible colors. Depending on the species, you’ll be able to find them in reds, greens, blues, and even yellows. The colors of the lizard help with the identification of which species they may be. While wild basilisks originated in Yi Ti (and possibly other regions around the Jade Sea), they became a very popular animal for use in Fighting pits throughout Essos, made to fight other animals as entertainment. Thus they have been imported into many animal menageries across Essos. When Daenerys passes through Qarth she sees a basilisk tearing apart a dog in a fighting pit; they are probably also found in the popular fighting pits in Slaver's Bay. century Vilnius University historian Professor Adomas Ignacas Naramovskis (Adam Ignacy Naramowski) wrote of the basilisks that were said to have lived in Warsaw and Vilnius in his book Facies rerum Sarmaticarum. [13] Romantic historian Teodoras Narbutas ( Teodor Narbutt) describes the location of the Vilnius basilisk's lair as having been near Subačius Gate.Dragon Rider: A basilisk appears as a sort of enormous, evil bird-like monster with a killing gaze. It’s never seen fully, and is killed when it’s forced to look at its own reflection in a mirror. As beautiful as the basilisk lizard is, make sure you never approach one in the wild. They are not friendly, and they become very skittish and afraid around humans. They are known for running on water to allow them to run away from predators and run toward their prey. Ambush: The Basilisk is an excellent ambusher due to its ability to borrow underground; only explosives can hit you on your Basilisk. The ambush will work on any creature as long as you time it perfectly.

These adaptations make it possible for the lizard to run on the water’s surface without sinking. There was a one-in-twenty chance that an egg was infertile, but otherwise an infant would hatch from it's egg between thirty one and fifty days after it had been lain. During this time period, neither parent ate, causing them to become increasingly aggravated. Newly hatched, a basilisk could be anywhere between one [8] and nine inches long. They would grow almost to their full adult length within four to six months. [10] Basilisks could live a natural life of at least nine hundred years, though Salazar Slytherin's Basilisk lived for approximately a thousand years. This was accomplished by using Parseltongue to put the creature into a deep sleep that prevented it from ageing, similar to suspended animation. In LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, the Serpent of Slytherin is incorrectly male because it has a red plume on its head. Basilisks are often depicted as large 6-legged reptiles. Some of them are able to inflict a long-lasting stun status to represent petrification. Looking a Basilisk directly in the eye caused instant death, but an indirect look would merely render the victim Petrified. [3] It was also the mortal enemy of spiders. Spiders refused to speak of the Basilisk, could intuitively sense their presence, and would flee whenever they sensed them. [4] The brown basilisk tends to be the most flexible with its diet, acting more opportunistically. They tend to eat aquatic larvae, insects, grasshoppers, and scorpions when they have the choice. share the bounty on the basilisk with you. However, Count di Salvaress appears again and promises to match the fee himself in exchange for letting Iocaste live. The reavers only care about the gold and don't mind either way, so it's your call and you have a timed choice to make. Basilisks are notable for three things: being incredibly deadly, having some form of shapeshifting ability, and these being the only concrete things anybody known about them, since people tend not to survive encounters with them. After returning to Meereen, Daario Naharis tells Daenerys Targaryen that among the turncloaks who have come over to her side is an axeman from the Basilisk Isles, a brute bigger than Strong Belwas. [10] Though its eye gaze alone could potentially kill its victims, basilisk venom was an extremely poisonous substance that only had one known antidote: phoenix tears. [1] Basilisk venom was so powerful that it could kill a person within minutes, making the person drowsy and blurry-visioned before they died. It had a very long lasting effect which still remained potent even up to five years or more after the snake had died. [1] It could also damage inanimate objects so thoroughly that they were impossible to restore, and thus it was one of the few substances powerful enough to destroy a Horcrux. [9] The Isle of Tears, located in the bay off the northwestern coast of Sothoryos where Gogossos once stood.

An adult basilisk is 13 feet long from head to tail and weighs roughly 300 pounds. These reptiles make hissing sounds when moving about that turns to a guttural gurgle when they’re agitated. Though they are normally solitary creatures that come together only to mate and lay eggs, there are periodic reports of regions being infested with unusual numbers of basilisks. What causes these unusual congregations of basilisk activity is unknown. I agree the dose might be different. But Pate walked away for some unknown time. Jaqen was following him. He didnot die where he stood. A basilisk prefers to eat petrified flesh. Once a victim has been turned to stone, the basilisk crunches the fossilized corpse with its powerful jaws and lets its potent stomach acids do the rest. This digestive process is extremely slow and inefficient, causing the basilisk to move so lethargically that it appears as if in mid-petrification itself. This has even led to the saying “as slow as a well-fed basilisk.” Certainly basilisks are well-known for their slow gait and slothful nature, but a predator that can turn its prey to stone with a glance hardly has much need for speed. Ology Series: Both are mentioned in Dragonology and Monsterology as species of pseduodragons, a term used in the books for creatures related or similar to dragons but that aren't classified among them for whatever reason. Petrifying Glance [reaction] ( arcane, aura, transmutation, visual); Trigger A creature within 30 feet that the basilisk can see starts its turn. Effect The target must attempt a DC 20 Fortitude save. If it fails, it’s slow 1 for 1 minute as its body slowly stiffens.
