About this deal

For music lovers, the C7 can get loud without distorting or sounding harsh, it rolls off bass early enough to stop it causing distortion but not so early that action scenes sound excessively thin and harsh. The amount of detail you can hear in the mix is prodigious, too. Almost hi-fi standard, in fact. Size class of the display as declared by the manufacturer. Often this is the rounded value of the actual size of the diagonal in inches. Finally, the OLED55C7 proves a treat for gamers thanks to taking just 21ms to render its pictures, and delivers more impact from good quality native 4K sources than any previous OLED generation. This latter strength is mostly down, it seems, to LG’s improved color subtlety and light controls in the image’s darkest and brightest areas. Over the years this older model had some issues, and right around the 3rd or so of ownership is started to have some image burn-in in the red color spectrum. I was pretty sad about it. LG still isn’t quite as assured with its HD upscaling as Samsung and, especially, Sony, but the gap has certainly been greatly reduced. So much so that many people will likely not consider it an issue worth worrying about when considered in the context of all the excellent other picture qualities the OLED55C7 delivers.

Update 08/14/2017: webOS update 3.6 fixed the PC mode HDR issue, so 4:4:4 color can now be properly displayed in HDR content. The 4:4:4 + HDR input lag has been measured as ~21 for both 4k and 1080p, which is no different from the other low input lag measurements.LG is a company who has listened intently to the needs of gamers over the past couple of years, and the 55C7V reflects this. Measured using a Leo Bodnar tester, input lag came in at a crazy-fast 21ms in both 1080p SDR and 4K HDR modes, instantly propelling the C7V to the top of our latency ranking table among 2017 televisions. LG’s tone-mapping for HDR10 Ultra HD Blu-rays favours preserving highlight detail over overall brightness of the HDR image. In other words, even in 4K Blu-ray movies that are mastered to 4000 nits, all the specular highlights will be intact without being blown out, though the overall picture can look a bit darker than the competition.

The operating humidity shows the acceptable level of humidity, in which the display will function flawlessly. It sets a lower and an upper humidity level for safe operation and is measured in percentage. When it comes to motion performance, handling of 50Hz interlaced video (for example, the type of video used for Freeview or Freesat broadcasts) is still found wanting on the LG 55C7, and we noted rare but reproducible interlace artefacts such as combing in fast-action sports. For the best experience, it’s worthwhile sending a progressive video signal to the TV wherever possible. There are various panel technologies. Each has its own specific features - viewing angles, color reproduction, response time, brightness/contrast, production cost, etc. The image quality depends directly on the type of the display panel used. The storage humidity shows the lower and upper humidity limit, which ensures safe storage of the display. Storing it outside these limits might damage the display. Information about the brightness of the screen. It is measured in candela per square metre (cd/m²).

Information of the number of pixels in a unit of length. With the decrease of the display size and the increase of its resolution, the pixel density increases. Two screen sizes are available, namely the 55-inch LG OLED55C7V (which we tested), and the 65-inch OLED65C7V. In the United Kingdom, the C7V is advertised for sale exclusively by Currys/ PC World at this time of publication (June 2017). On paper, a peak brightness of 690 nits amounts to only around half of what top LED LCDs can generate, but in some HDR scenes the LG OLED55C7V will actually look brighter in a side-by-side comparison. This is largely because of OLED’s unassailable per-pixel illumination control. LG is the only OLED brand to furnish its displays (including the OLED55C7V) with four full-bandwidth HDMI 2.0b ports with HDCP 2.2 compliance, making it easier for owners to connect multiple UHD (ultra high-definition) HDR sources without having to route cables through a receiver or switcher.
