About this deal

The proportions of this helmet look absolutely superb, including the rounded dystonic motivator housings on either side and the aforementioned ridge on top. The open interior looks excellent too, avoiding the unsightly support structure which affected 76182 Batman Cowl last year. The brow is noticeably raised though, relative to the source material. It might be hard to make out, but there is also grey padding on each side of the inside of the helmet, which was a really nice touch. I think these 2 helmets look great, and if you own and liked the previous range of helmets, these will be great additions to the LEGO Star Wars Helmet collection. As mentioned at the beginning of this review, open-faced helmets introduce design challenges not present for enclosed designs. César Soares has expertly avoided those potential problems with 75327 Luke Skywalker (Red Five) Helmet though, faithfully depicting Luke's classic helmet. I am particularly pleased with the integration of the presentation stand and the decoration across this model.

BATTLE OF YAVIN OR BATTLE OF HOTH?: Flip the switch inside the helmet to choose between a simulation of piloting an X-Wing at the Battle of Yavin or a Snowspeeder at the Battle of Hoth The details are spot-on, and despite some minor niggles like the fidgety chin strap, this is by far one of my favourite LEGO Star Wars helmets yet, as it looks great displayed on its own, or with the other helmets in the collection. Synchronized LED lights and 3 speakers create an immersive battle simulation experience, featuring energy blaster fire FX and communication from R2-D2. This is LEGO’s first Rebel and open-face helmet, as previous inclusions have mostly been Imperial-flavoured, but it instantly makes a huge impact when you see it.

Luke Skywalker’s Red Five Helmet is the smallest (by piece count) helmet on the wave, at only 675 pieces, and it’s not a particularly lengthy or tedious build – it took me about 2 hours of leisurely building, so it’s an ideal set to build over a lazy afternoon. As expected, the Mandalorian helmet borrows heavily on the Boba Fett Helmet, and employs a mix of light grey and silvery elements to create a sense of shininess.

Unfortunately, I think the issue derives from the presence of flexible yellow hoses flanking the ridge. These are based upon stripes visible onscreen, but their flexibility is restricted and their curvature could not necessarily be stretched any further. The yellow stripes immediately above the visor are welcome though, beside printed Rebel Alliance symbols. There is a lovely foreword and introduction by LEGO Star Wars Creative Director, Jens Kronvold Frederiksen, and the iconic shot of the X-Wings on the Death Star trench run.At 584 pieces, the LEGO Mandalorian Helmet, which is central to Din Djarin’s identity and characterisation in the hit The Mandalorian Disney+ series, and I can see this one selling really well due to the character’s popularity. Luke Skywalker's helmet from the Battle of Yavin features vibrant colours and therefore differs from previous Helmet Collection models, so complements those helmets on display. The scale also remains consistent between them as this creation reaches 19cm in height, matching other sets. I think this scale works nicely for display, without occupying too much space. Luke Skywalker’s Red Five helmet is a superb addition to the LEGO Star Wars Helmet collection, and one that would look incredible displayed alongside the other helmets, or next to a LEGO X-Wing. Ideally the UCS Red Five X-Wing Starfighter. When I first saw the helmet, and it being an open helmet, I was quite excited as I was hoping it would fit the Wooden LEGO Originals minifigure, but alas, it’s just a tad too large! It would’ve made such a brilliant accessory for it!

The orange visor is probably the least accurate, as the dip in the middle feels too deep, but I learned from the designers that this was a particularly challenging part of the model, as they needed to use trans-orange elements, that were as clear as possible, and many iterations led to this one. The light dances and bounces off the drum-lacquered silver parts of the helmet quite nicely, and it’s unmistakeably Mandalorian which is all you can ask for. The bright colours, and contrasty pops of red, yellow and white detail look great against the mostly white helmet, and like others in the collection, the helmet is perched on a sturdy stand. If you’re a Star Wars fan, and looking for a great display piece that isn’t a ship, or large UCS model, I can highly recommend this set, especially if you have the other Helmets from the collection. Dark Troopers are perhaps the most fearsome-looking of all Imperial battle droids - and it's safe to say that Lego has perfectly captured that ferocity in its design of the Lego Star Wars Dark Trooper helmet. It's a little smaller than most other helmets, thanks to the shape of the Dark Trooper's armor.

Overall

Awaken your creative Force - channel Jedi-like focus and mindfulness as you build this highly detailed LEGO Star Wars Luke Skywalker (Red Five) Helmet (75327) model The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author. The Completed Model

The open face nature of the helmet is brand new territory for LEGO, and they’ve done a decent job here with it, and it doesn’t feel as empty like the LEGO Batman cowls. Do note that there is supposedly a third helmet on the way as well – a Dark Trooper helmet, which wasn’t part of this reveal, so keep your eyes out for that one soon. 75343 Dark Trooper Helmet – 693 pieces The bright colours, and the fact that it’s a Rebel helmet also add to the uniqueness, and I was very impressed by how well the LEGO designers translated one of the most iconic helmets in Star Wars, and also made it so much fun to build.
