About this deal

Venn diagrams are used in the story. Can you make up your own Venn diagrams and explain what they show? It has been a treat for me to do something very different from Marple, because people tend to see you in one light, and I’ve been doing Marple for five years now. So really it’s lovely that somebody has seen something else in me and offered me this. I’m very grateful. Gangsta Granny is a British comedy- drama television film based on David Walliams' 2011 children's comedy fiction book of the same name. The adaptation is by Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley. The first broadcast was on BBC One on 26 December 2013 at 6.05 PM. A sequel was released in December 2022, with an almost entirely different cast. One day, Ben calls his parents at Granny's house and asks them to take him home. Mum and Dad ignore Ben and disapprove of the proposal. Granny somehow overhears the conversation due to the indistinct sound made by Ben while he was talking. The next morning, his Granny seems somewhat upset and disappointed thinking that her grandson doesn't love her. Ben’s mum worked at the local nail salon, ‘Gail’s Nails’. Because there weren’t many customers, Mum and the other lady who worked there (unsurprisingly called Gail) spent most days doing each other’s nails. Buffing, cleaning, trimming, moisturising, coating, sealing, polishing, filing, lacquering, extending and painting. They were doing things to each other’s nails all day long (unless Flavio Flavioli was on daytime TV). That meant Mum would always come home with extremely long multi-coloured plastic extensions on the end of her fingers.

He goes home and now can't wait to see his grandma again to find out about these jewels. But when his dad rings Granny up, she says she's too busy that evening to have Ben sleep over.Using the story ‘Gangsta Granny’ as a hook, children are sure to feel excited and engaged in their learning. You could begin your lesson using the informative PowerPoint, which introduces learners to the process of writing character descriptions. Find out what might happen to your teeth if you only pretended to brush them as Ben does in the story.

Gangsta Granny \"They go out of date tomorrow,\" said Raj, as he lumbered over to the freezer cabinet, slid open the glass top and pulled out a cardboard box of Cornettos. A freezing cold mist immediately She doesn’t have the best relationship with her mother-in-law. She’s a bit hard on her, a bit tough on her. I think she does that classic thing of just disparaging all older women and thinking “well I’m not going to get anything for them”. So Linda’s a bit mean actually, a bit tough. She doesn’t really give granny the time of day. But don’t fear – there’s a lovely arc to the book, and it might come good… Gangsta Granny It wouldn't. And now it was getting cold. Cold bits of cabbage, floating around in some cold cabbagy water. \"Erm, it's delicious, thank you,\" replied Ben. \"G00d\" • In fact, if there was a fire in their house, and Mum could only save either a sparkly gold tap-shoe once worn by Flavio Flavioli (the shiny, tanned dancer and heartbreaker from Italy who appeared on every series of the hit TV show) or her only child, Ben thought she would probably go for the shoe. Tonight, his mum and dad were going to an arena to see Strictly Stars Dancing live on stage.

Ben

It’s a charming, rather whimsical story. I know that’s not what they call up-to-date, being whimsical, but I think it’s a marvellous quality to have in something modern. Cabbagy Water \"Are Mummy and Daddy not coming in?\" she asked, a little crestfallen. This was one of the things Ben couldn't stand about her: she was always talking to him like he was a baby. Broom-broom-brroooooooooommm. 1,'ogether Granny and Ben watched the little brown car race off, leaping over the speed bumps. Mum and Dad didn't like spending time with her any more than Ben did. It was just a convenient place to dump him on a Friday night. \"No, erm... Sorry, Granny... \" spluttered Ben. \"Oh, well, come in then,\" she muttered. \"Now, I've set up the Scrabble board and for your tea, I've got your favourite... cabbage soup!\" Ben's face dropped even further. Noooooooo 000000000! he thought. The only person in the company that I’ve worked with before is the lovely Joanna Lumley, who really is a bit of a national treasure, on and off screen – a very nice woman. We met before on an episode of Marple, which was a treat. Then to meet David and Miranda was just fantastic. In Chapter 5 there is a timetable for ‘granny’s hectic life’. Could you create a new, more exciting timetable with lots of different activities at various times each day? Could you make up some questions for others to answer about your timetable (e.g. How long does a particular activity last?)? The BBC can announce the commission of Gangsta Granny Strikes Again! an adaptation of the hugely popular 2021 children’s book written by David Walliams.

Make a list of questions to ask the Queen if you had the chance. Could you role-play an interview with the Queen? I hate spending time with her,” protested Ben. “Her TV doesn’t work, all she wants to do is play Scrabble and she stinks of cabbage!” I play Linda, and when I’m in full costume it’s hard not to speak as her in a full Essex accent. She is the mother of Ben, our lead character, and daughter-in-law of Granny, married to Mike, David Walliams. Mr Parker has a very large nose and wears dark clothing, a distinctive pork-pie hat and a bow tie. He is an irritating and extremely nosy man who uses binoculars to spy on his neighbours. When he speaks, Mr Parker has a nasal voice which can sound rather annoying.” I think it’s a very clever script. Gangsta Granny is really in the boy’s [Ben's] head, it’s in his imagination. She fires his imagination, but he wants an interesting granny, and grannies don’t always show their hands. There are hidden depths. I’ve always wished I had hidden depths – I’ve been looking for them for years!Whether you’re looking for fun activities to do at home with your children or in school with your class, you’ve come to the right place! We’ve teamed up with Harper Collins to bring you a range of fantastic ready-made activities themed around the book ‘Gangsta Granny’, written by David Walliams. Here are just a few that we think you’ll enjoy: In Chapter 24, there is a list of famous prisoners who were kept at the Tower of London. Can you find out about them and their crimes? All her life, she has been plotting to steal the crown jewels, and now she needs Ben’s help… Teaching Ideas and Resources: English Updated: 29 September 2022 It is a thrill to revisit these characters in a brand new story. I hope families are going to love this comedy adventure story." — David Walliams
