About this deal

If the collar was in a fixed position, there would be (at least some) continual pressure which means no actual training is taking place and your head collar is working more like a restraint. Your dog will only walk well on a loose lead and this is what we are looking to achieve. The Canny Collar is the best collar to help train dogs not to pull on leash, transforming even the worst pullers into happy, well-behaved pets. The nose band on the Canny Collar is designed to be free-moving rather than in a fixed position, so that when your dog is walking well, he doesn't feel any pressure at all on his face. This is in fact how the collar works, using a pressure and release system - pressure when pulling, no pressure when not pulling - this is your dog’s ‘reward’ for walking well and he should only feel pressure if he pulls. Because the Canny Collar fastens behind the head and not under the chin, your dog cannot lift her paw over her leash and pull the collar off her head. Even if she manages to get a claw into the slip line and pull it off her nose, your leash is still secured to the D rings and so she cannot escape. Can be used in both ‘training collar mode’ and ‘regular collar mode’ by easily dropping the slip line (nose band) off your dog's nose as needed. This way, you can train your dog to eventually walk on a regular collar and lead.

If our leash never loosens, we are simply restraining our dog from moving forwards instead of training them not to pull. This is where a head collar can help. These first couple of minutes are an opportunity to connect with your dog and be focused on training him to walk well. The first five or ten minutes are the most important part of the walk for both of you and if you can get your dog walking well in this time, the rest of the walk will be a breeze. The slip line (nose band) eliminates pulling and lungeing by applying gentle pressure when your dog pulls and immediately releasing the pressure as your dog stops. The collar part stays in a fixed position, just like your dog’s regular collar.A head collar is an effective training aid which can speed up the time it takes to train your dog to walk to heel" At first, some dogs may dislike the feel of having a head collar on their nose. For these dogs, it’s important to gradually condition them to wearing it.

The first time you put the nose band over your dog's nose, he may resist it and try to paw it off his face. Any head halter will cause this reaction for some dogs. It is similar to the feeling we have when wearing a wristwatch for the first time - some dogs are simply not used to it. If your dog reacts this way, try desensitizing him first by introducing the collar slowly, then building up to going for a walk. Some breeds like Pugs and French Bulldogs have virtually no nose and a head collar will simply will not work for them. Others, like Boxers, have a short, wide snout which makes some brands of head collar unsuitable. The Canny Collar doesn’t have to be removed when your dog is off lead and can be safely left on while your dog runs free. Dog trainer Susan Garrett is very clear that a head collar is not a ‘set it and forget it’ device.. You cannot just fit it and then absent-mindedly walk your dog down the road.

An extra benefit of this design is that your dog cannot get their paw onto the leash and pull the head collar over their head. Head collars that fasten under the chin tend to close your dog’s mouth when pressure is applied to the lead but there is no real benefit in clamping your dog’s mouth shut if all we are doing is teaching her to walk to heel. Head collars also often have a calming effect on some dogs. There is less excitement and/or distraction when training so that your dog is more focused on you.
