This exceptional single malt matures in American white oak ex-bourbon and hand-selected American Rye barrels, imparting depth and complexity. The new distillery's architect was William Delmé-Evans, who had previously been involved with Tullibardine and later went on to build Glenallachie. The new distillery was producing malt more akin to the Highland style rather than the heavily-peated whisky of near-neighbours Islay, a strategy that has continued to bear fruit for Jura (although more experimental peated bottlings from the late 1990s are now finding their way to market, to some acclaim). The whisky was laid down in a single Refill Hogshead, patiently maturing for 30 years, before being bottled in Febuary 2023. A well-balanced entry in the Jura range, made up of both smoky and unpeated whisky matured in bourbon casks and finished in sherry, adding darker notes to the soft smoke and fresh fruit of the distillery's whisky.

The palate is rich and full-bodied with black forest fruits and some smoky notes, before a bitter chocolate aspect and rich espresso finish.

After maturing in mainly American oak ex-bourbon barrels, the whisky is decanted into Jura’s iconic bottle – with its broad shoulders and rounded edges originally designed to withstand rough sea journeys. uk accepts no liability for inaccuracies or misstatements about products by manufacturers or other third parties. Some of the tallest stills of any island distillery are used to distil the spirit, adding to the purity of the whisky. Nose Zesty wafts of fresh lemon peel and candied orange open things up followed by mint leaves and blossom. Single malt whisky does have a distinct and pronounced flavor profile, often with a depth of flavor and a high degree of complexity which some connoisseurs may interpret as “better”.I too was not sure at first but soon realised that this has a lot to offer in terms of smell and taste and has a fairly long finish. It has the subtle smoke characteristic of Jura's excellent Island single malts, with robust vanilla and an intense kick of sherried sweetness underneath.

Jura whisky is made using the crystal clear waters that run off ‘The Paps of Jura’, the tallest mountain range on the isle. I am disappointed as Jura was a good distillery once, but this has non of the complexity or warmth that I remember from 15 years ago. Made by a tiny island community, on an island where the 200 residents are outnumbered by some 5,000 deer, Jura distillery makes a surprisingly light whisky - expertly balancing the sweet and the smoky. Delmé-Evans was most involved with Jura, however,remaining on the board until his retirement in 1975. Found a bottle of the old 10 in my dad's cupboard and I prefer the newer version as the tastes are kind of more separated, whereas the old was molded into one. Just 8 miles long, Jura's single track road stretches from the island's ferry port in the West, right up to the Northeast of our island. It is not my favourite Jura; and I find it needed a considerable quantity of both ice and water for me to find it drinkable with any pleasure. The result is a 14 year old expression boasting layered spice, aromatic, herbal, and floral qualities.
