Exploring allows you to reveal new tiles in the galaxy and place them in strategic ways to either connect to the larger galaxy or seal yourself off and turtle away, and offers the potential of nabbing discovery tiles from most new sectors. There is a bit of player interaction based around the typical combat type parts and if you play a 4 player game or more you open up diplomacy!

To be clear, I am very much the only person in my circle that is beginning to see the cracks in the armor of the game, and that is because I have played it the most. The game plays fine solo if you don’t mind managing multiple races and honestly I didn’t find it too overbearing at all. Now, if you ever attack someone whose tile you have then you break those relations and will not only lose that ambassador tile but also gain the “Traitor” tile. Not only do they use colors to differentiate them by power but they make it easier to see if you’ve hit or missed by removing the “1” in favor of a blank side and removing the “6” in favor of an automatic hit.I love the concept of the player boards except for the fact my 2 layer boards for each player board were defective. At the start of play, only the galaxy center tile and tiles for the players' respective home stars are laid.

For many people in the hobby, the words “space” and “4X” are synonymous with Twilight Imperium, the de facto king of the genre.If it’s unoccupied, you can place cubes on any planets there to colonise them, which usually means more resources for you at the end of the round. These NPCs are fairly tough opponents that sit on the best spots in the galaxy, including good hexes you might discover while exploring, and five valuable spots revealed during setup.

To this end there is a new piece on the board alongside all the different factions in the shape of the GCDS (Galactic Centre Defence System), a Death Star like space station at the very centre of the map. In our last game, I had to build dreadnoughts and starbases at a time when I really didn’t want to, just because my wife moved her own vicious dreadnoughts into a sector next to one of mine. Build – Spend some of your build points to add to your fleet or build a space station to improve your infrastructure. Play continues the turn around the table until all players have passed, at which point, the next round begins. They are just awesome and I cannot say enough good things about Gametrayz and what they do for boardgames.Your opponents are expanding towards you and you need to upgrade your fleet but you absolutely need to place that economy cube or you’re looking at bankruptcy, so you’ll need to spend influence over there and… well… this is where the complexity comes in.
