About this deal

More lift-the-flap adventures from Acorn Wood: Squirrel’s Snowman, Mole’s Spectacles and Badger’s Band. One of my television songs, A Squash and a Squeeze, was made into a book in 1993, with illustrations by the wonderful Axel Scheffler. The stories are on the simpler side (perhaps even a little boring for adults/older children) but I think this is where the books stand out for their specialism for babies and younger toddlers. Axel Scheffler is a star illustrator whose instantly recognizable, warm and witty illustrations have achieved worldwide acclaim and numerous awards.

With sturdy flaps on every spread and rhyming stories that are a joy to read aloud, Cat's Cookbook joins the first four stories in the bestselling Tales from Acorn Wood series, Fox's Socks, Postman Bear, Rabbit's Nap and Hide-and-Seek Pig, which have been delighting parents and children for over twenty years. Given that they are a series for the youngest kiddos, you would think the creators would plan for some rip-proofing or at least rip-reduction in their designs; sadly not. Lift the flaps and join in the fun with Cat's Cookbook, a new story in the bestselling Tales from Acorn Wood preschool series by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, creators of The Gruffalo. Axel’s artwork is exhibited internationally; he has illustrated for many charities and designed the Royal Mail Christmas stamps in 2012.Best known for her collaborations with Axel Scheffler, each of these vivid rhyming stories is a triumph of imagination. Further books illustrated by Axel include Room on the Broom, Stick Man, Zog and The Smeds and the Smoos – all of which have been made into much-loved animated films by Magic Light Pictures. He is in P1 now and still reaches for these books for a bedtime story, he has almost memoried the words.

I brought the whole collection of the books but I think this one is my favourite- the only downside is they’re annoyingly catchy and memorable so I end up wandering round saying the words which really just sums up maternity leave life lol! My novel The Giants and the Joneses is going to be made into a film by the same team who made the Harry Potter movies, and I have written three books of stories about the anarchic Princess Mirror-Belle who appears from the mirror and disrupts the life of an otherwise ordinary eight-year-old. All of the series are great for animal recognition and I have loved seeing my daughter initially point to, and now name the different animals. With sturdy flaps on every spread and rhyming stories that are a joy to read aloud, Cat’s Cookbook joins the bestselling Tales from Acorn Wood which have been delighting parents and children for over twenty years.

the problem is four pop ups are the same - books and the kiddo is not really interested in discovering tiny differences between them. More about Julia: “I grew up in a tall Victorian London house with my parents, grandmother, aunt, uncle, younger sister Mary and cat Geoffrey (who was really a prince in disguise. With sturdy flaps on every spread and rhyming stories that are a joy to read aloud, Cat's Cookbook joins the bestselling Tales from Acorn Wood which have been delighting parents and children for over twenty years. My daughter has thoroughly enjoyed this book and all of the other books in the Tales of Acorn Wood series since she was about 8 months old.

I really like these books, short and rhyming with lovely illustrations and ‘flaps’ for your little one to faff with and enjoy. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.
