About this deal

I have a Boss ME-70 Multi-effects box, which does variations on Compression, Distortion, Modulation, Echo, Pedal and Preamp modeling. This feature is useful to record with simply by plugging in directly to a sound card, and bypassing the need for amps and mics. If you want to sound like Hendrix on 'Hey Joe' Just download the settings and copy them to a slot to have them forever.

The Preamp section now feature distinct models of some desireable amps, namely a Vox combo, Fender Bassman, 70's Marshalls, and Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier, in addition to a standard Clean channel. If you're going straight into the PA then the ME-70 would be better than the ME-50 since it has preamp modelling. We do try to give a broad indication of the general condition in the description, but this is just a guide. The ME-70 ups the ante on the ME-50 in a number of ways: adding a separate Preamp section, featuring Roland’s terrific sounding COSM amp modeling, four extra presets and one more footswitch—for a total of four.I could back off my guitar volume for a slightly thicker clean sound than with the effect bypassed, or, full up, get a nice crunch rhythm. Yes, they definitely overlapped, but I'm pretty certain the ME-5 was the first - in fact the first proper floor multi-FX of any kind - and then they brought out the cheaper BE-5 to cover the lower end of the market as well. These musicians could afford the more complex, larger pedals from the Boss GT series, but seem to find that the compact, lighter-weight, simpler to use ME line gets the job done—hogging less cargo and stage real estate in the process.

You can also attach an external pedal to a jack on the back of the ME-70 to scroll through banks in Memory mode. This way you can have two different delay times, that can be engaged one at a time or together, instantly available at the touch of a toe. Since your amp has 4 channels, you could always get a stereo 1/4 inch to 2 mono 1/4 inch splitter and use 2 chan on your amp. They all sound familiar, not just because they're pretty convincing emulations of the real amps, but also because the signature COSM tone has been with us for nearly 15 years now. It now has a Momentary setting for the delay effect which can be used in conjunction with a secondary delay provided in the Modulation section.I ran their me70s direct into some tube preamps to warm them up and then into some good apogee converters. It does need careful setup to get the best out of it and I believe into a valve amp at volume is the best of all. In addition to its stellar COSM amp models and effects, the ME-70 is outfitted with a new COSM Preamp section derived from BOSS’s GT-10 and Legend series.

Credit is provided by a panel of lenders with whom we have a commercial relationship (so we cannot provide independent advice). I'm no longer sure that's really an advantage though - I've got an SE-70 half-rack unit which must be about the same age and also has analogue distortion. In band rehearsals its been used on the floor of a truck repair garage (including a pit I nearly fell into whilst soloing ) and ended up looking like it had lost a fight with a bag of cement. In addition to the classic Boss compression, the Comp/FX section offers the coveted Slow Gear effect that gives you automatic level swells, freeing your finger from the guitar volume, and your foot from the expression pedal. If you want to change the settings you can do so and either save as a patch, save it as the new E-Z Tone for that effect, or not save it at all. Each effect type has a number of 'optimal' factory settings saved as an EZ Tone, and these can easily be summoned up by means of the effect module's 'type' knob.
