About this deal

We've no real idea why this limitation exists, and hope that Fuji fix it in a future firmware upgrade. Until then you can work around it by copying the images from the built-in memory onto a memory card, or preferably by recording images to a microSD card and transferring them from that to another device, neither of which are as convenient. With this instax camera, you don’t have to choose between the joys of the digital age or the pleasure of analogue design. The mini Evo combines both into a hybrid digital camera that encompasses your passions. Unique to the mini Evo is ten integrated lens modes and ten film effect filter options that offer 100 different combinations for photographers to express themselves and create one-off, unique shots. And when paired with instax mini instant film, the mini Evo creates the highest-ever quality instax instant prints to date, 600 dpi, when printed directly from the camera.

Charging takes up to three hours. Also not supplied here is a microSD card for the storage of images, for which a slot is provided adjacent to that for the USB lead at the camera’s base. But then we don’t get a memory card provided when we buy a dedicated camera or phone anyway, so it’s hardly a deal breaker. As it is, the camera boasts an internal storage capacity for up to 45 images to get us going out of the box. Approximately 16 seconds. When using instax-Rich Mode immediately after startup printing may take an additional 7 seconds. What film does the Fujifilm instax mini Evo use? One important limitation to be aware of is that the Mini Evo only saves images that you've actually printed into the app, not every photo that you've taken - so if you've filled up the built-in memory with 45 images, but only printed 10 of them, only those 10 will be saved in the app. Inside it's a very modern device, though, pairing a 5 megapixel digital camera with an inbuilt Instax Mini printer and sporting two shutter release buttons, 3-inch LCD screen, accessory shoe, selfie mirror, flash, a charging port and a micro SD slot. Whereas 2019's Instax Mini LiPlay sported a fun design designed to be attractive to a younger audience, the new Instax Mini Evo is a much more serious affair.Instax prints have an iconic quality to them and the mini Evo is no different. Whether you opt for ‘instax-Natural Mode’ for conventional image quality or ‘instax-Rich Mode’ for vibrant colours. Change how you express yourself in every image. As for the prints themselves, they’re nicely saturated and give a good impression of detail thanks to their small size. They’re fun enough for souvenirs and keepsakes, particularly if you use the camera at a special event such as a party, special trip or a wedding and so on.

Also on the top plate we find a large ridged metal dial set flush to the body which is unmarked, but which a glance at the booklet in the box reveals is a ‘film dial’ for selecting the 10 different film effects promised up front. It then makes sense that turning the ridged lens dial surrounding the lens itself runs through the 10 different lens settings. Also at the bottom of the Fuji Instax Mini Evo, alongside the card slot, is a micro USB port, which you can use to charge up the camera. The flash on the front of the camera will light up to let you know it’s charging, switching off when it’s complete. There's also a factory-reset button in the same compartment.. It mimics the look of classic film cameras pretty well, with the faux leatherette coating both looking genuine from afar and also making it easier to grip than the smooth, shiny surface on the LiPlay. The textured coating is made from plastic, though, not true leather. You can choose to ignore this and shoot in landscape orientation if you prefer, but the text on the camera will be the “correct” way up only when holding the Mini Evo in the portrait orientation. As well as an image capture device, the Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo can also act as a standalone mini printer, connectable to our smartphones via Bluetooth, meaning that photos transmitted from our phone’s camera roll can be output as hard copies. It also means that shots can be transferred the other way from the Mini Evo to our smartphone for sharing on social media or with friends and family. Truly its maker seems to be attempting to cover all bases and user requests with this one.

Only printed photos and images in your print history can be transferred. Up to 50 photos are saved in your print history so be sure to transfer your shots over regularly to keep them on your phone. What memory card does the instax mini Evo take?Announced in November 2021, the Instax Mini Evo is the latest hybrid instant camera from Fujifilm, sporting a classic, vintage retro design that recalls old-fashioned cameras from yesteryear. The main menu features a number of different settings which you can change, including face detection, switching the AF illuminator on or off (you might wish to switch it off if you’re trying to shoot somewhere discreetly), print settings, bluetooth settings, date and time and so on. You can also use the Mini Evo to print images from your smartphone (or indeed any image file found on your smartphone), too. The small 54x 86mm (2.1 x 3.4in) paper prints emerge from the slot in the side of the camera and gradually fade into view 90 seconds after you first pressed the shutter button. The transfer works both ways. Every image that you snap on the camera is automatically saved to the mini Evo. Simply transfer your shots onto your smartphone for sharing with the digital world –the instax frame even transfers too! When it comes to the menus and interface, there’s loads of shared DNA between this and the Instax Mini LiPlay, which is a bit simpler but also blends digital and instant photography. The Mini Evo repurposes familiar controls to make things all the more intuitive to use. The focus ring? That’s used for the ten “lens effects” such as fisheye, soft focus and double exposure. The rear control dial? This changes between ten “film effects” like sepia, monochrome or “retro”.
