About this deal

Linda Hayden played Timmy's fiancée in Confessions of a Window Cleaner and French co-worker, Brigitte in Confessions from a Holiday Camp, while Marianne Stone played a woman in the cinema in the former and a waitress in the latter. Adopting the title Rosie Dixon – Night Nurse, the film was produced by experienced filmmakers Davina Belling and Clive Parsons, who spent over a year auditioning young hopefuls to take the leading role. The Night The Prowler (1978) This unusual Australian psychological drama stars Kerry Walker as Felicity Bannister, a lumpish, neurotic Sydney girl living with her middle-class…

Prior to Pop Performer, a sequel called Confessions from the Clink was considered but never got further than production notes. Sid’s boss, old Crapper (Stephen Lewis), sends him to change a toilet seat for the kinky Janice and, after more sexual skirmishes, our likely lad sells the seat to an antique dealer for 50 pence. This is great fun until the arrival of a new manager, Mr Whitemonk. He decides to change the bad habits and in doing so turns their lives into hell. That is until somebody has a rather good idea. In August 1977 Belling told Screen International; “I’ve seen a lot of 18-year-old scrubbers in the last 18 months, but when we found Debbie Ash we knew she was right!”.The guest stars (both in and out of bed) are of the usual Columbia calibre. Many faces are re-used from previous Confessions episodes, notably Liz Fraser as a dizzy housewife obsessed with winning newspaper competitions and John Le Mesurier as head surgeon Sir Archibald (more interested in the 3.30 at Newmarket than whipping out an appendix).

Silent Partner, The (1978) This Canadian remake of a Danish film called Think of a Number (Tænk på et tal) has timid bachelor bank… While executive producer Norman Cohen directed the final three films, he was also originally supposed to direct Window Cleaner but stepped aside in favor of Val Guest. Guest was supposed to return for Pop Performer but didn't due to concerns from his wife about him being on set with various naked women.Timmy and Glad are so noisy in their passion that they wake Sid in the chalet next door, and he angrily gets out of bed to peer through Timmy’s window. The tone is set by the opening shots of a rain-swept Havant railway station, and the main narrative unfolds in a grey Hayling Island.

Producer Michael Klinger rejected a script for Confessions from a Haunted House. Plans to shoot a Direct to Video film in the 1980s also came to nothing, as did a proposed 1992 film, Confessions of a Squaddie, with action due to take place in post-Gulf War Kuwait. Eventually, the hippo explodes, hurling a naked Timmy into the swimming pool, where he is seen (but again not recognised) by Whitemonk. Carry On Up The Khyber (1968) In India, Private Jimmy Widdle (Charles Hawtrey) is discovered wearing underpants under his kilt, shattering the myth of Scottish invincibility… Major Argyle was a circuit judge for 18 years who vigorously spoke out against permissiveness and pornography. He famously presided over the Oz magazine obscenity trial, handing out severe prison sentences and pronounced publicly, “I will not tolerate filth!”.California Suite (1978) Four groups of visitors stay at the swanky Beverly Hills Hotel and are forced to deal with problems ranging from a…

Eventually, the beauty contest gets underway, compered by host Roughage (Colin Crompton), but the whole event is ruined before it starts by young Kevin (Nicholas Owen), who starts a massive cake fight. The Confessions films relied on a blend of saucy humour and ‘What the Butler Saw’-style smut (much loved by the Carry On team). Rosie Dixon‘s funniest moment probably happened off-screen. When the movie was nearing completion, Belling and Parsons innocently invited the parents of cast members Peter Mantle and Carolyne Argyle onto the set. What the Reverend W E Mantle and Judge Major Michael Argyle thought of their offspring appearing in a soft-core porn film was never reported. Every opportunity for smutty innuendo is seized in this hospital comedy as Debbie Ash suffers countless indignities in the title role.Filmed in the autumn of 1977, the movie was based on a novel by Christopher Wood – Confessions of a Night Nurse, published in 1974. Wood followed the character of naive suburban teenager Rosie over nine books between 1974 and 1977, casting her as an escort, a babysitter, riding mistress, barmaid and so on.
