About this deal

If you’re conscious about how eco-friendly your tools are then you’ll be pleased to discover that this product gives off zero emissions and even better, its ultra-quiet function means that noise pollution is kept to a minimum too. WORX introduced the two 20v batteries in 2018 to enable compatibility with their other cordless power tools of which there are 40 in the range. The two WORX batteries can be charged at the same time and the WORX WG779E.2 comes with an eco mode for lighter cuts, reducing the power and extending the cutting time. It’s tempting to say you should go for the more powerful Worx WG779E.2 instead but that’s also slightly more expensive and not quite as easy to lug and push around as the WG730E and, while it isn’t quite as good as Bosch’s excellent CityMower 18, the Worx WG730E is a whole lot better value.

Those who have tested it found no fault in its cutting and liked how easy it was to store. While the charge time is agreed to be quite long for the 4.0Ah batteries, the pay off is a very long battery life that is plenty for most gardens. Reviewers also agreed that it was light and represented great value for money.

After giving the WORX WG779E.2 cordless lawn mower a thorough testing on my lawn, I’m well impressed with its performance. This mower is lightweight yet robust, making it a breeze to manoeuvre around landscaping and use for the full mowing session. Its build quality feels rather sturdy for the price point. As someone who has tested and reviewed many different lawn mowers, I was eager to get the WORX WG779E.2 cordless mower out on the lawn. This is one of the top-selling cordless models in the UK, but I wanted to see for myself just how well it performed. A 30L grass collector is included with the WG779E.2, meaning you won’t need to stop it during your mowing to empty the box. This capacity is perfect for smaller lawns, having ample space for lots of clippings, even on those mows where you remove a lot of length from the lawn. In comparison, the Flymo Mighti-Mo 300 takes the same 2 hours to charge as the WG779E.2 but the the WORX will last longer with the ability to cut a lawn up to 350 m². This is surprising as the Flymo Mighti-Mo 300 weighs 3 kg less than the WG779E.2.

This is a relatively lightweight piece of garden equipment that can be easily folded away in between uses. The 30cm cutting width isn’t huge, so this mower is at its best on smaller lawns and preferably well-treated flat ones, as a lot of lumps and divots can affect the regularity of the cut. Do you like a striped lawn? Well the WORX does have a roller at the rear that gives that lovely striped look to your lawn. The roller also has suspension allowing it to adapt better to the contours of your lawn. This is another advantage over the Flymo 300 – if you like striped lawns that is! With a total of six cutting heights available, the WG779E.2 offers a nice selection of positions for the blade to get the perfect cut in any condition. Ranging from 20mm to 70mm, the settings are suitable for varying lawn conditions, whether it’s long and overgrown grass or short, well-maintained grass.

The rotary blades are made from steel which is an extremely durable metal so you know that, even if you run into an unexpected obstacle, you’re not running the risk of causing any significant damage. Another great feature of this mower is an easy to see battery gauge on the top of the mower; you would think this is standard with all cordless mowers, however, this is not the case. Well done WORX for including this! The excellent battery performance is a big contributor to the success of this model, even more so when you consider how much more affordable the WG779E.2 is compared to other battery operated models.
